Step 1: Preparation
CoolSculpting is a simple, in-office procedure that doesn’t involve considerable preparation. You should inform the providers of your entire medical history and ongoing medication usage. Our providers will discuss your goals and examine the treatment areas to determine if you can proceed with the treatment. If you’re deemed a suitable candidate for CoolSculpting, we will provide a comprehensive overview of your preparation guidelines.
The following are the preparation guidelines for CoolSculpting:
- Eat a light snack or meal just before the appointment.
- Don’t drink beverages or caffeinated products before the appointment.
- Arrive in soft, loose-fitting, and comfortable clothes.
- You can listen to music, read a book, or watch something during your session, so feel free to bring the appropriate headphones or books. You can also simply lie back down and relax.
Step 2: Treatment
You will change into the disposable clothes we provide for the session, following which our technician will take images of the treatment area for later comparison. The provider will mark the treatment areas on your body for the applicators. A gel pad will be placed on the treatment areas to create a barrier between the applicator and your skin. Finally, the applicator will be placed on the gel pad, thereby initiating the treatment.
You may experience some discomfort for the first few minutes. The applicator will generate suction force while cooling the treatment areas, so you’ll experience a pulling and pinching sensation. The treatment area will eventually become numb because of the cold, and you won’t feel any more discomfort. The CoolSculpting applicator will be removed after 35 minutes, and the provider will massage the area to break up the frozen tissues, thus facilitating fat absorption.
Step 3: Aftercare
After the CoolSculpting treatment, the provider may apply a compression garment on the treatment area to promote faster recovery. You may experience mild post-treatment side effects, such as itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness, and cramping on the treatment areas. In some cases, patients may also experience muscle spasms, soreness, bloating, and nausea. These side effects will gradually dissipate within a few days.
Most people can resume daily activities and work immediately after CoolSculpting. The results from the treatment may start appearing within a month, but the final results gradually appear after 2 to 3 months. Each session of CoolSculpting reduces 20 to 25% of the fat cells in the targeted area, so you may also require additional sessions for continued improvements.
